These codes provide a method to collect data and to identify companies for state and federal regulation and taxation. The proper industry classification for nurse staffing agencies is a temporary help service. Proper classification is important to your business’ future.
Business legal structure
The legal structure for a temporary help service is usually a corporation affording the most tax deductions and liability protection. The corporation is an independent legal entity separate from its owners. The owner is not liable for the debts or judgments incurred by the corporation, and personal assets are not at risk.

Little known facts
Nurses working for temporary help services are usually designated as employees. Some agencies hire independent contractors. The agency, the healthcare facilities, the nurse, or the contract between the nurse and the agency are not the final word on worker status for tax purposes; the IRS has the final word on worker status for tax purposes. You may be responsible for back employee taxes and penalties if the IRS determines that the nurse (worker) is employee status and not independent contractor status.
Certification is available through JACHO and is optional.
Retrieved from http://www.nnba.net/facts-nursing-agency.htm on October 28 2008

Start Nurse Agency Guide http://www.independentrncontractor.com/
google_ad_format = "468x60_as";

If you are a student it could take 6 months or more to make a full plan. If you aren't seeking funding or don't want to create that full on business plan then what options do you have? I still think you should create a plan, just because it will be incredibly beneficial for your business, but there is a shortened business plan that you can create that will give insights into the industry and business you are looking to run without the time investment of a full plan. This shortened plan is known by many as a preliminary venture analysis. (called a PVA for short) A PVA give you the info needed to create a fairly quick decision on whether or not your business is feasible or if you have a smaller decision that needs to be made such as whether or not a new product line should be launched. A PVA is most comparable to the executive summary part of a full business plan. The big difference between the two is that to make a PVA you will spend a lot less time gathering information and researching. This means it will not have the same depth as an executive summary.

A PVA is quite useful to show to various organizations and to circulate around. It is sort of like a paper version of the Elevator pitch and there are several companies you can send PVA's too that review and circulate them so that you can hopefully find angel investors around the country. For business plan competitions with the right PVA's you can show them off to receive reviews or even funding if its good enough. By making a mini business plan you are saving yourself the time and effort needed to make a full on business plan but still have something concrete and real to show.

Want more information about starting and running a business? If the answer is yes than you need to check out our website at http://startyourowncompany.theinformationexperts.com It will show you how to run your own great company and be your own boss.

Retrieved from Article Source: http://EzineArticles.com/?expert=Jeff_Hendrix on 05/02/08

START YOUR OWN NURSE AGENCY OR BETTER YET WORK AS AN INDEPENDENT NURSE CONTRACTOR
http:www.independentrncontractor.com
google_ad_format = "468x60_as";

It is charged with the responsibility of providing four primary areas of assistance to American Small Business. These are: Advocacy, Management, Procurement, and Financial Assistance. Financial Assistance is delivered primarily through SBA’s Investment programs, Business Loan Programs, Disaster Loan Programs, and Bonding for Contractors.SBA’s Business Loan Programs
SBA administers three separate, but equally important loan programs. SBA sets the guidelines for the loans while SBA’s partners (Lenders, Community Development Organizations, and Microlending Institutions) make the loans to small businesses. SBA backs those loans with a guaranty that will eliminate some of the risk to the lending partners. The Agency's Loan guaranty requirements and practices can change however as the Government alters its fiscal policy and priorities to meet current economic conditions. Therefore, past policy cannot always be relied upon when seeking assistance in today's market.Federal appropriations are available to the SBA to provide guarantees on loans structured under the Agency's requirements. With a loan guaranty, the actual funds are provided by independent lenders who receive the full faith and credit backing of the Federal Government on a portion of the loan they make to small business.The loan guaranty which SBA provides transfers the risk of borrower non-payment, up to the amount of the guaranty, from the lender to SBA. Therefore, when a business applies for an SBA Loan, they are actually applying for a commercial loan, structured according to SBA requirements, which receives an SBA guaranty.In a variation of this concept, community development organizations can get the Government's full backing on their loan to finance a portion of the overall financing needs of an applicant small business.SBA’s Investment Programs
In 1958 Congress created The Small Business Investment Company (SBIC) program. SBICs, licensed by the Small Business Administration, are privately owned and managed investment firms. They are participants in a vital partnership between government and the private sector economy. With their own capital and with funds borrowed at favorable rates through the Federal Government, SBICs provide venture capital to small independent businesses, both new and already established.All SBICs are profit-motivated businesses. A major incentive for SBICs to invest in small businesses is the chance to share in the success of the small business if it grows and prospers.SBA’s Bonding Programs
The Surety Bond Guarantee (SBG) Program was developed to provide small and minority contractors with contracting opportunities for which they would not otherwise bid. The U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) can guarantee bonds for contracts up to $2 million, covering bid, performance and payment bonds for small and emerging contractors who cannot obtain surety bonds through regular commercial channels.SBA's guarantee gives sureties an incentive to provide bonding for eligible contractors, and thereby strengthens a contractor's ability to obtain bonding and greater access to contracting opportunities. A surety guarantee, an agreement between a surety and the SBA, provides that SBA will assume a predetermined percentage of loss in the event the contractor should breach the terms of the contract
Finance Start up http://www.sba.gov/smallbusinessplanner/start/financestartup/SERV_SBAROLE.html

Start Nurse Agency or Work As An Independent Nurse Contractor http://www.independentrncontractor.com/
google_ad_format = "468x60_as";

Here are five of the more common mistakes, and what you need to do to avoid them.

1. Not saving receipts of less than $75. People sometimes get excited when they hear that the IRS doesn't require receipts for meal and entertainment expenses of less than $75. Don't fall into this trap.You may not need the receipt, but you still need to have some sort of record documenting where you went, when you went there, who you were with, the business purpose of the meal or entertainment and the business relationship between you and the people you were with.When you look at the list of
requirements, what could be better for documentation than a credit-card charge receipt? In most cases, the charge slip will already have printed on it the name and address of the restaurant and the date and time you were there. All you have to do is write on the slip who you were with and what the business relationship and purpose was of the event. While a receipt may not be required, for many people hanging onto the receipt is going to be easier than keeping an entirely separate log of the expense information.

2. Lumping equipment with supplies. Equipment is a capital expenditure, and capital expenditures have to be depreciated.Special rules do allow most small businesses to write off up to $24,000 in capital expenditures for tangible personal property (such as computers and office furnishings) in the year it is purchased. However, you still have to report these purchases as capital expenditures and elect to use this special method of expensing the costs.What if you don't report the purchases properly and instead just deduct your computers and other capital items as supplies? The IRS could rule that
you improperly characterized the expense and are not entitled to the deduction you claimed.Not only that, but since you failed to properly categorize the property or make an election, you could also find that you're required to add the cost of the property to your overall investment in your business. Result: no current deduction at all.

3. Forgetting to track reimbursable expenses. Many small-business owners pay for some business expenses with cash out of their own pocket or through a personal credit card.That's fine. The mistake is if they don't track those costs and submit the expenses to their company for reimbursement. Also, the company must have an established plan that does deduct the expenses and enables reimbursements to be nontaxable to employees.But if you don't keep track of and substantiate the expenses, you will at best have a non-reimbursed business expense. These can be deducted on your personal tax return only to the extent that all of your miscellaneous Schedule A expenses exceed 2% of your adjusted gross income.

4. Miscalculating automobile deductions. Part of the problem here is that there are many ways to calculate deductions for business use of a car. Here are some brief guidelines that can help you:

5. Giving more than you can receive, tax-wise.
It seems like every year I see at least one small business saying that it had a couple thousand dollars in deductible business gifts in the previous year.Now, I have no problem with gifts to clients and business associates. But a four-figure deduction for gifts gets my attention, because the IRS allows us to deduct only up to $25 worth of gifts to any individual per year. So $2,000 in deductions would mean that gifts were given at least 80 different people. That's a lot of gifts.Usually it turns out that while the money was indeed spent, it was divided into several gifts that were more than $25 apiece. There's nothing wrong with being generous. But only that first $25 per recipient is a deductible business expense. The rest is a nondeductible expense.Sometimes it does seem as if no good deed goes unpunished.

http://www.independentrncontractor.com Independent Nurse Contractor Guide Nurse Agency Start up
google_ad_format = "468x60_as";

Besides having a winning idea or service to offer, you must be self-motivated, persistent and energetic, say successful healthcare entrepreneurs.
Faye Berger Mitchell, a nutritionist in private practice since 1988 in Chevy Chase, Maryland, and Thom Golden, a former emergency room nurse who founded Doctor Baby Proofer in 1986 in Dallas, offer eight tips to aspiring entrepreneurs:

Do What You Know
It's easier to launch a business that builds off your existing knowledge, experience and professional contacts than to enter an entirely new field as an entrepreneur. Golden hatched his idea to open a baby-proofing business while working with pediatric trauma cases in the ER, where he recognized injuries that could have been prevented in a child-safe home.

Believe in What You're Doing
If you're going to invest your time and money in building a business, you must have confidence in your abilities and boundless enthusiasm about your venture. Berger Mitchell survived a few tough months right after quitting her job as a patient food services manager because of her enthusiasm about self-employment. "For the first time in my life I was able to take rejection and still keep going," says Berger Mitchell. "It was because I loved what I was doing." She now teaches a course for dietitians and nutritionists called "Be Your Own Boss: The Basics of Starting a Private Practice."

Look Before You Leap
Trading career stability for professional independence is a worthy goal, but keeping a full- or part-time job while you get your venture going is wise. You'll be able to see if you're cut out for entrepreneurship while still earning a paycheck. Golden hung on to his ER job while his baby-proofing business was getting off the ground. "Within two years I was busy enough consulting and performing child-safety audits that I didn't have enough time for the ER anymore," he says.

Expect Some Ups and Downs
Most entrepreneurs don't hit the jackpot overnight; they painstakingly build successful enterprises. Doctor Baby Proofer was a home-based business for 12 years before Golden moved into a 4,500-square-foot showroom two years ago. He now has six employees. According to Berger Mitchell, it takes most entrepreneurs an average of two to five years to build a successful business.

Promote Yourself
Berger Mitchell advises aspiring entrepreneurs to network, network, and then network some more. She drummed up business initially by joining her local professional association and volunteering for every opportunity to give a speech or work at a health fair. Golden says his most potent form of marketing is giving seminars to expectant mothers in settings like hospitals, health fairs and corporations. Berger Mitchell says, "You have got to sell yourself. No one is doing that for you."

Cultivate Existing Contacts
Your connections to your former colleagues are worth their weight in gold, too. Golden says he still receives referrals from nurses and health professionals he worked with years ago while he was still a practicing nurse.

Recognize and Overcome Your Weaknesses
You may have a steady stream of happy clients or customers, but you need to gain some business savvy to stay afloat financially. Golden recommends that aspiring healthcare entrepreneurs take classes through their community colleges on how to operate a business and make use of community resources like the Service Corps of Retired Executives. The help of a good attorney, accountant or business advisor can also be invaluable, Berger Mitchell says.

Don't Give Up
The road to entrepreneurial bliss may be bumpy. If it is, perseverance is the key to staying on course, Berger Mitchell says. "If this is something you really want to do, you need to be persistent," she says. "Don't take 'no' for an answer."

VISIT http://www.independentrncontractor.com/
google_ad_format = "468x60_as";

People read postcards when the message is brief. A small ad on a postcard can drive a high volume of traffic to your web site and generate a flood of sales leads for a very small cost.

No single marketing effort works all the time for every business, so rotate several marketing tactics and vary your approach. Your customers tune out after awhile if you toot only one note. Not only that, YOU get bored. Marketing can be fun, so take advantage of the thousands of opportunities available for communicating your value to customers. But don't be arbitrary about your selection of a variety of marketing ploys. Plan carefully. Get feedback from customers and adapt your efforts accordingly.

Use buddy marketing to promote your business. For example, if you send out brochures, you could include a leaflet and/or business card of another business, which had agreed to do the same for you.
This gives you the chance to reach a whole new pool of potential customers.

Answer Your Phone Differently. Try announcing a special offer when you answer the phone. For example you could say, "Good morning, this is Ann Marie with Check It Out; ask me about my special marketing offer." The caller is compelled to ask about the offer. Sure, many companies have recorded messages that play when you're tied up in a queue, but who do you know that has a live message? I certainly haven't heard of anyone. Make sure your offer is aggressive and increase your caller's urgency by including a not-so-distant expiration date.

Stick It! Use stickers, stamps and handwritten notes on all of your direct mail efforts and day-to-day business mail. Remember, when you put a sticker or handwritten message on the outside of an envelope, it has the impact of a miniature billboard. People read it first; however, the message should be short and concise so it can be read in less than 10 seconds.

Send A Second Offer To Your Customers Immediately After They've Purchased Your customer just purchased a sweater from your clothing shop. Send a handwritten note to your customer thanking them for their business and informing them that upon their return with "this note" they may take advantage of a private offer, such as 20% off their next purchase. To create urgency, remember to include an expiration date.

Newsletters Did you know it costs six times more to make a sale to a new customer than to an existing one? You can use newsletters to focus your marketing on past customers. Keep costs down by sacrificing frequency and high production values. If printed newsletters are too expensive, consider an e-mail newsletter sent to people who subscribe at your Web site.

Seminars/ open house Hosting an event is a great way to gain face time with key customers and prospects as well as get your company name circulating. With the right programming, you'll be rewarded with a nice turnout and media coverage. If it's a seminar, limit the attendance and charge a fee. A fee gives the impression of value. Free often connotes, whether intended or not, that attendees will have to endure a sales pitch.

Bartering This is an excellent tool to promote your business and get others to use your product and services. You can trade your product for advertising space or for another company's product or service. This is especially helpful when two companies on limited budgets can exchange their services.
Mail Outs Enclose your brochure, ad, flyer etc. in all your outgoing mail. It doesn't cost any additional postage and you'll be surprised at who could use what you're offering.
visit http://www.contractornurse.com to start your own Nurse Agency or better yet work as an Independent Nurse Contractor
google_ad_format = "468x60_as";
